How we source mentions
mention.au exists because monitoring can be done carefully. This page is our public commitment about what we read and what we refuse to touch — it isn't a backend policy you have to take on faith.
What we do
- Publicly available news feeds and RSS from Australian and international outlets
- Public blogs and publisher feeds that are open to any reader
- Public forum threads where content is visible without an account
- Public social posts from accounts that have chosen to be public
- Only a short snippet around your matched keyword, plus the source name and a link
What we never do
- Paywalled articles — we never bypass, cache or reproduce them
- Private accounts, closed groups, DMs, or anything behind a login
- Full article text, anywhere: not in the app, not in email, not in PDF reports
- A general news reader or media library of other people's content
- Selling or reselling source content to anyone
What a mention looks like, everywhere
Wherever a mention appears — your dashboard, a daily email, a weekly PDF — it contains the same three things: the source name and type, a short snippet around your keyword, and a link that opens the original in a new tab. Reading the full piece always happens on the publisher's own site.
If a source ever falls outside these bounds, it's flagged internally and removed from the directory. You can report a source to us at support@mention.au.
